Abstract

The fundamental design and inherent capabilities of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution (GMCR) to address a rich range of complex real world conflict situations are put into perspective by tracing its historical development over a period spanning more than thirty years, and highlighting great opportunities for meaningful future expansions within an era of artificial intelligence (AI) and intensifying conflict in an over-crowded world. By constructing a sound theoretical foundation for GMCR based upon assumptions reflecting what actually occurs in reality, a fascinating story is narrated on how GMCR was able to expand in bold new directions as well as take advantages of many important legacy decision technologies built within the earlier Metagame Analysis and later Conflict Analysis paradigms. From its predecessors, for instance, GMCR could take advantage of option form put forward within Metagame Analysis for effectively recording a conflict as well as preference elicitation techniques and solution concepts for defining chess-like behavior when calculating stability of states from the realm of Conflict Analysis. Keith ·William ·Hipel (基思·威廉·海波尔),加拿大籍,滑铁卢大学系统设计工程系大学首席讲座教授,是系统工程、水资源管理、环境工程、管理科学等领域的国际知名专家。曾担任加拿大皇家科学院院长,荣获加拿大工程院院士、加拿大皇家学会院士、美国工程院外籍院士、美国土木工程学会会士、美国水资源学会会士、国际电气和电子工程师协会会士、国际系统工程学会会士等60多个国际奖项和荣誉称号。2017年,加拿大政府特授予他加拿大总督荣誉勋章“Officer of the Order of Canada (O.C.)”,以表彰他在系统工程、水资源管理等领域作出的杰出贡献。Hipel教授因长期从事系统工程领域的跨学科研究而享誉全球,研究方向涉及冲突分析、多准则决策、统计时间序列分析、复杂系统等领域,相关研究成果在水资源管理、水文分析、环境工程、能源管理以及可持续发展等多方面得到了广泛应用。
